Adventure Comics #1:
I liked this. Kon making his little list is so cute, as well as the liedtoSupermanangst! at the end. It definitely looks interesting, and there was Bart! Wanting to smash his memorial statue and getting all hyperactive about it! And wearing boots to bed! (Which reminded me of Luna saying the same thing in the HBP movie. Bart and Luna Lovegood, soulmates Y/Y?) Oh, Bart, I love you. And I love Krypto stealing Kon's thunder in the cute-girl-saving area. Manapul's art is excellent, I love it, it's so pretty.
But it looks like Superman's buying into DC's current line of "PEOPLE ARE BORN EVIL!!!!111" Seriously, Kal? Lex was born evil? Lovely thing to say in front of Kon, and complete bullshit as well. What a stupid thing to have Superman say. I thought he was friends with Lex as a kid! (Though I guess Johns could be changing that. Sigh.)
I didn't really understand the backup, but Starman's bowling is funny. Though schizophrenia does not work that way, really. I'm surprised Johns would play an actual life-destroying mental disorder for laughs actually.
That said, I'm not sure how long I'll be getting this. I love Kon, but I am a poor college student and I have no interest in the Legion Backup. So unless it really grabs me...
but for now, it gets a solid 4/5.
Booster Gold/Blue Beetle #23
Booster was better than it has been this week. Micheal's little speil about "I'm the greatest hero ever in the future!" and him trying to hit on 80's!Raven amused me (as well as her reaction- which was the flowery, melodramatic equivilant of "WTF". ) And post apocolyptic scenarios and Trigon is always fun.
Blue Beetle was great as usual. Paco makes everything funny, and it was nice to see Brenda admit her vulnerability and try to reach out to the robot girl- but Paco's reaction- "I can't tell Jaime about our problems but you can tell random robots?" made it. Though Sturges messed up a little- Brenda's dad is supposed to be DEAD, not in prison. And of course, by the end, Brenda and Paco are bickering again. Oh, those two. And Jaime is wonderful as usual, snarkily hoping lessons are learned. Overall, this was a very strong installment and a nice thing to read on one's birthday. I love these characters, and always will.
Booster: 3/5
Blue Beetle: 5/5
And onto the next week (Wednesday Comics will be reviewed in a clump):
Batgirl #1: See here. In the future, Batgirl may or may not always get a post to itself. It will depend on how my fancy strikes me, I suppose, but it is a comic starring Steph, so chances are I will get pretty wordy.
Supergirl #44: Maybe it's because I'm not a huge fan of this crossover (other than the WoNK issue that began it) but this issue seemed a bit weaker than the others. It was just...crossover-y.
Lois is very mad at Kara, which is understandable, but I hope this particular plot thread doesn't drag on too long, because it could get old after a while. Kara is very mad at Flamebird for getting her father killed by not being a good cheif of security. I guess I'm a little confused on that part. I mean, is it Thara's job to check everyone who comes into New Krypton? You'd think that would be down to the lower staff, one person can't do all that. And how do you keep people off a PLANET, anyway? Besides, in Kara's view, Thara is crazy, so she's not really culpable for any bad decisions she may have made. So she's being really unfair to her friend. But I suppose grief does make you unfair. I wonder if Gates intended the irony of Kara blaming a friend unfairly for the death of her father, while she's upset that Lois is doing the same thing to her over her sister.
Anyway, Kara is captured by Mirabai, and Gates does a good job of making it seem like "OMG big things are happening this climax is gonna be big guys!"
(Well, I looked over the Superman issue in the comic shop...and it really isn't. Earth has decided Superman is bad for no reason, Mirabai punches Mon-el but they don't kill him for some reason, Earth REALLY must hate Supergirl, Nightwing and Flamebird now...and that's it. Also, Superman meets Genral Lane, but it's really anti-climatic. But that's not Gates fault.)
A decent issue, and Jamal Igle shines as always. I particularly liked the page with Thara punching the bus.
3.5/5
Power Girl #4:
I got this a week late- I just really liked the scans I saw on sd. I'm glad I did- it was a transistional issue, between arcs and as such was really easily accessible. I love the hilarious movie trailers, Terra and Karen's adorable relationship, Karen scaring poor lewd guys with her tallness but making sure to give them advice on how to be more respectful of women in the future...Karen's love of horror movies (and the adorable semi-psychotic look on her face when she talked about it- Amanda Conner rules) and how newbie Terra didn't know you should wear your costume under EVERYTHING- "well, except cocktail dresses and bikinis"- and decided just fighting crime in her undies would be an acceptable substitute!
I also like how Karen actually got the Well Intentioned Extremist villian a talking to and a job that would fit her talents instead of sending her to jail- more superheroes should do it, and it showed how smart and proactive Karen is.
And then we have Amanda Connor's adorable expressions and backgrounds and Karen's evil cat being awesome- it was a very fun issue.
I wish I had enough money to keep getting this series, honest, this issue was such a joy. Who knows, if next months scans prove to entice me again, I may drop another series in favor of this one.
5/5
And now for this week:
Detective Comics #856:
I'm on the fence about whether I should drop this after the first arc is over. The art is breathtaking, though Maggie Sawyer has a hell of a creepy smile. I really like the relationship between Kate and her father. The story is pretty interesting. But it's not the level of fantastic that gets me to pay for 3.99 comic. I don't understand a lot of the Crime Bible stuff (I need to reread 52, but it's hard to find all the trades in bookstores...and then read the Crime Bible series) and I'm just not really hooked. On the other hand, I'm interested in Kate's origin, which is the next arc. Maybe I should just read/get this in trade.
Renee's backup was really bleh. She escapes from a car, she beats up a guy. The story doesn't have any meat to it that I can see.
4/5
Flash: Rebirth #4
Yes, I got this. You know why? One word: MAX. Oh my god, Max. I knew it was coming, because Bart really clunkily forshadowed it by not being able to go five seconds without mentioning Max, but I was not prepared for how much joy I would feel when it happened. Max is BACK! And he came back for Bart. And he came back and saved Bart. And Barry's whole speech about him being a father to Bart- it was so adorable and true! I fangasmed.
Also Bart's pure :DDDDD face when Max came back in all his hairy chested glory. Even in the last splash page when they were all preparing to kick ass he was looking over at Max all gleeful.
The rest of the issue wasn't bad either! I loved Bart's moments with Thawne. Calling him a jerk and punching him and being like "Hey, we're only half related. *shrug*" Oh, Bart.
And Wally's kids are cute and bratty, and Wally got to be a badass. And now the whole Flash family is fighting together! I love it. Awesome. It even makes me want to get the next issue. Well, mayyybe. If there's a lot of Bart and Max in it.
I can't wait for Bart's series. There better be a lot of Bart and Max hijinks in it!
5/5 JUST BECAUSE MAX.
Wonder Woman #35:
Oh, Dinah, I love you. I also love seeing Diana and Dinah kick ass.
I liked the mention of Myndi Mayer too. I liked Myndi.
And that's an interesting plot development with Zeus's lightning. I wonder what it means? I like how Diana said "Great He-" and then had to cut herself off. She used Hera's name later on after the lightning though. I wonder if it means something or it's just a slip.
Diana makes a promise to Pele. That can't be good. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.
As for Diana and Nemesis- aw, poor Tom. I look forward to whatever explanation Diana offers Tom, hopefully that'll come about next issue.
4.5/5
And now...Wednesday Comics:
Batman: The "Batman threatening thug" scene last week was really inspired- it's rare to see Bats torture his foes so creatively- usually he just dangles them off buildings. But he got all wacky with the "slipping bit of glass" and lit cigarrette above the eye. And the art did amazingly well with it. But it goes back to bleh and confusing this week. I have no idea what's going on, and don't particularly care.
Kamandi: I KNEW little human girl was a secret badass! I KNEW she had to be awesome! Maybe it was just that I liked her dress and her pretty hair- but I've liked her from the start, so it was a nice birthday present to see her finally reveal that she was a grade-A asskicker two weeks ago. And we find out her name was Orora the week after that- as well as confirm that Kamandi is an adorable little dork, "You are very beautiful!" I want to ruffle his hair. Meanwhile, poor Tiger army- but they've got the Lions on their side now! Ha, the talking animals amuse me.
Superman: Finally stops angsting and starts fighting, a little. Still not that interesting.
Deadman: Boston is old school and gets to mack dead girls. Nothing special, but entertaing enough.
Green Lantern: Hal got fired from the space station for being a stupid jerk. Why am I not surprised? Now he's trying to save his friend. Pretty standard.
Metamorpho: EW, Saph's dad is flirting with Urania. He's WAY too old for her. Java amused me, and I like how creative Gaiman gets with the strip.
Teen Titans: The Blue Beetle strip was super painful- because of the REALLY HORRIBLE spanglish (seriously, Jaime saying something in Spanish EVERY OTHER WORD what the hell, Jaime may use the occasional spanish phrase in his own title but he is NOT a painful stereotype, Berganza!), the confusing fight, and Trident being the son of Dr. Light- seriously, you wanted to bring a character who is now forever connected with the word rape, Berganza? Oh God, now I'm thinking about HOW Trident is probably the son of Dr. Light AGHHH. And the next strip? Takes in FC continuity- Dr. Light burned by Spectre- "It was deserved". So yeah, I'm guessing this IS rapist Dr. Light. WHY do we need rape in Wednesday comics? Also, Tim is pretty whiney. I guess he just can't escape that characterization.
Adam Strange: Two other Adam Strange strips not about Alanna- but hey, this weeks was! I like Alanna. And I like this strip now, even though I didn't so much at first.
Supergirl: How ditzy IS Kara to think Aquaman can talk to things that are not fish? I mean, any newbie superhero should know that- as he points out, it's IN HIS NAME. I do get the impression she's a newb- crying at Aquaman's little blow up makes her seem pretty young. I do like how she's super stressed and concerned about her pets- I can relate. And her being bored with the TV and not able to find anything to eat in Mid-Nite's fridge was funny. As always, Conner makes everything adorable.
Metal Men: Aw, Tin gets hurt! I like Tin, I hope he's okay (which he will be, I'm sure). Platinum sure gets pissed at this, I like her showing some characterization besides "wants to sex Dr. Morrow" and also being a little badass.
Wonder Woman: You know what else I got for my birthday? ETTA CANDY! The best birthday present of all. Love her in this, she's just big and fun and totally into being a sidekick. The strip is really getting awesome with Di knowing now the dreams are real and fighting Cheetah and the talking skulls and lasso of truth and the pages being less cluttered (though the layout of this weeks was a little confusing)
Sgt. Rock: At least it's not just the Sgt getting constantly beating up anymore- but it's still really boring.
Flash: Things are getting freaky with the multiple Flashes and Barry's nose bleeding and him freaking out and the world quaking. Exciting!
Demon/Catwoman: FINALLY Catwoman is human again, but the strip is still pretty dull. And the first strip of this showed so much promise! A shame.
Hawkman: Okay, so this strip has grown on me. Hawkman being all protective of the little girl with huge glasses is adorable, and there's dinosaurs! Also, this week, we got to see Hawkwoman and she's busy "mopping up the alien invasion, honey". JLU has rubbed off me, and so it just makes me happy whenever Hawkwoman/girl shows up. Poor Hawkman is stuck with only Aquaman as possible help (man, Aquaman's showin' up everywhere). That has to be a bummer. But Hawkman takes it in stride, saying "he couldn't hurt!" Well, hopefully...
Whew! That's three weeks of comics reviewed! Now I really need to go to bed!
- Mood:
tired
I am all over that. ALL OVER. If Gates does half as good a job with Bart as he's done with Kara, I'll be incredibly happy. I hope Max is back for it! It would be great to see those two together again. Oh, happy days. I hope it has a good artist too.
Now I have to get this AND Adventure comics is slowly luring me into it's clutches. Dammit, comics, stop making me spend so much money! Not to mention the super crossovers next month AND the months after that (Supergirl and Action crossing over). I don't WANT to get Action or Superman. Maybe I'll be able to figure out what's going on just from Supergirl and WoNK? (Heh, it spells "wonk") Or read the others in the shop? I might have to drop WoNK soon anyway, to save money, sad as that is.
I went to the sale (I don't think I made myself clear, but it's not a storewide sale but a ton of random comics in a bin that are a dollar each) and didn't get as good a haul as I would have liked (I accidentally picked up a YJ issue I ALREADY HAVE. Dammit) but I do now finally own a copy of that Detective Comics Steph!Robin issue, so it was was all worth it. Especially since it had a backup story with CASS! Meeting Onyx for the first time! Best issue of Detective Comics ever. No, you cannot convince me otherwise.
- Mood:
contemplative
In the meantime, my roommate has emailed me back and she seems really nice! She was all enthused about college and getting to know me, and she says she's not a big party-er and she's a book nerd, so we should get along! Yay!
And then there's comics. I have tons to review:
I got last weeks Wednesday Comics and this weeks two days ago, so I'll review them both at the same time:
Batman: Definitely very pretty art, and definitely keeping some interest. I'm enjoying it so far.
Kamandi: Nice and old school, and the art is beautiful.
Superman: Cry moar, Big Blue. I rarely say this, but I agree with Batman. Get over it, stupid people are everywhere and earth is your adopted home, no one cares about your angst. Though I do appreciate the Ma Kent hugz. The art is definitely not my cup of tea.
Deadman: Oh, Boston. What more can I say? I'm enjoying it so far.
Green Lantern: Art continues to be very nice, story is okay.
Metamorpho: Two splash pages. The old comics at the bottom are amusing, (though the kids souless eyes creep me out) but I'd rather we get on with the story.
Teen Titans: Wow, well balanced and faintly self-deprecating Tim! It's been a long time. I actually like the art more as we go along. As for the story...we've got a cliched "hates-superheroes-because-their-fig
Adam Strange: Um, Zeta Beam. Right, that's good. Warrior girl in distress. Got it. I guess I should read Adam Strange or something, because I don't mesh with this.
Supergirl: Continues to be fun and adorable.
Metal Men: Okay. I have no idea why that security guard wanted to shoot at them though. Nice art, decent story.
Wonder Woman: Okay, sure it's very dense and complicated. But if you pay attention and reread, you can pretty much understand it, and it's very nice and mythic and faintly cracky. Garbage spirits? Who knows where that came from! And I appreciate Caldwell taking advantage of the size of the page to tell huge stories. Also how he takes advantage of the "wacky crazy myths abound" setting Diana does so well in. Though the "she wakes up, it's just a dream, back to sleep, OH WAIT NOT REALLY A DREAM GUYZ" is getting old, so I hope we get something different soon.
Sgt. Rock: Continues to get beat up. NO ONE CARES.
The Flash: Geez, Iris, when you married a superhero you should have realized he'd be off, you know, SAVING PEOPLE a lot and weird crap would happen. Don't be a whiner about it. Meanwhile, cute art, good taking advantage of space with the split format, and time travel ahoy!
The Demon and Catwoman: So wait, did this witch lady hire Selina for the job? Since when is Selina hired help? Or did she hypnotize her somehow? And now Catwoman is a cat, literally. 'Kay. Art's pretty.
Hawkman: Okay, Hawkman giving the thumbs up to that little girl was ADORABLE. But he killed more birds and apparently wants to take over the world, but this other guy wants to as well. So now they fight. DICK. Why did those birds think he was compassionate?
So far, this continues to be pretty cool.
5/5
Supergirl #43
Another quiet issue, with lots of nice moments. So looks like Lucy really was Superwoman, though I think Lois is jumping the gun with the funeral arranging. Kara writes to her father and tries to understand her mother, ending up joining the Science Guild to do just that. Like I said, lots of nice moments, especially between Alura and Kara, when Alura explains how she's trying to show Kara the different sides of all the Guilds, not punishing her, and Kara is all "and you didn't TELL me this why?" And I like how Kara clearly has an artistic interest. She's like me! I feel sorry for her, that she's not following her talent to it's fullest in her desperation to figure out Alura. And great Jamal Igle art as usual, with a very pretty Kryptonian gown.
5/5
Runaways #
Chase, you either killed someone or you made it up because your dad hit you. MAKE UP YOUR MIND. Lots of Runaways complaining in this issue, but it didn't bother me too much, and I'm interested to see where it goes.

Legion of 3 Worlds #5
I KNEW DC BOARDS WAS EVIL. I KNEW IT. IT IS SUCH A PIT OF SUCK IT HAS ATTRACTE
The Legion fights, Prime is mocked, Bart makes sure to mention Max again (I KNOW, Bart, I want him back too. NOW.) Bart and Kon get reunited with Titans! Cassie is like : D and Tim is like 0_o when this happens. By the way, this makes Tim's attitude even more inexcusable in Red Robin. His friends and ex-girlfriend are back. At this point he's lost no more than Dick has (parents, Bruce) so he can't complain "I'VE LOST EVERYTHHHHIIING!" And judging by recent events, he should just chillax and wait for Bruce to come walking through the door. Sure, Dick replaced him as Robin (which was OOC) but if he hadn't reacted with flaily rage he may have been able to salvage the situation. And the fact he complains he has no one to talk tooooo when he has an entire network of friends and support and his two BFF's recently back from the dead....WELL. I have no sympathy.
Oh yes, this issue. It was good. George Perez art and some decent jokes.
4/5
The Unwritten:
I just got this series, and it's fantastic. All metatextual and on the nature of stories and I just love that stuff. Lots of lit geek stuff and the HP references make me happy and eye- roll-y at the same time. I rec it. I'll talk a little more about it later.
5/5
I also bought from my comic shop Gail Simone's run on Action comics, which was entertaining and everyone from Superman to Lois and Jimmy was funny and awesome. Also a couple of 90's Superman issues Lois was awesome in. (One was right before the wedding where she went on a QUEST TO FIND HERSELF and bust up a drug racket and one during the honeymoon where she saves Clarks depowered ass from evil foriegn people with explosives, sleuthing and kung fu) Also a few 80's Teen Titan issues, which were good, of course.
Anyway, that's all my comic-y news! There's a sale at my lcs tomorrow that I'm going to, maybe I'll bring John. In the meantime, catcha later.

After AP's are over, I plan to do a rebuttal post to a few Wonder Woman posts on WFA that I would like the debate...WITH SCIENCE! Or comics canon, whichever you'd choose. But that happy day is not today. I did do a Wonder Woman related post on BSR about the history of Wondy sidekicks.

In the meantime, I am wasting my time between study sessions reading a horrible fanfic I came across on TV Tropes called "Rose Potter" which attempts to make the HP series better by making Harry a girl and a psychopathic omnipowerful naked druidess sexfiend arrogant Mary Sue. And all the other characters sniveling at her feet. Also Weasley bashing! I'm reading sporking from HMS STFU on it, not the thing itself. I think I've reached the end, thank gods above, it's addictive in it's horribleness.
I am also catching up on my HP fandom by continuing to re-read the books and finally reading the series to Dad! We're on the third one.
But enough of that! I bought comics yesterday! And free comics this weekend, hurray!
Legion of 3 Worlds #4:
Let it be know I know hardly anything about the Legion. I know Shane and others who like the Legion are frustrated about this series. I do agree about it being a bit formulaic, and Superboy Prime's random murders never fail to make me roll my eyes. But I can't help but be over the moon about Bart being back. AND ACTING IN CHARACTER! The most in character I've seen him under Johns, actually! And he and XS together made me so happy, it's just like the old days in Impulse. And he mentioned Max! Oh, Bart, I love you.
Also I like Conner being back, but in my opinion he got a pretty nice send off. I mean, I liked him better in YJ, but he didn't get completely screwed over like Bart did characterwise, and he got to die saving the UNIVERSE. It wasn't like how Bart and Steph died. But I'm happy to have him back, and I hope it leads to some good stories.
And Tim has nothing to be emo about now! All his friends are ALIVE! Mwahahaha! No more whining from you, Tim! I guess he could whine about his Dad and Batman...but Bruce will be back in a few months and what hero doesn't have dead parents. So there!
And of course, as always, I love Perez's art. Especially the constant hyperhappy expression he gave Bart. *huggles Bart*

Wonder Woman #31
Wow. Now that a twist. A very nice one too. I am confused though. How did Ares get a hold of future Diana's corpse? Did he go into the future? As a god, I guess he could do that. And I thought he gave up his World Conquering plans the first time he fought Diana? Huh. Well, it looks to be an awesome showdown. I hope this isn't the last time Cheetah appears. I'm still hoping for her to pull a fast one on Diana, considering the OOC thing with her being afraid of having her tail cut off. Also, I want Chuma to show up, just to see Bluefall squee.
Also, Diana punches a missle to death. Hee.
Is it just me, or was this issue kind of short? Did the animal man preview cut it off?
4/5
Teen Titans #72
Meh. That's all I can say. No, it's not. This crossover is boring. Jericho is stupid and evil and there's no point. Why can't we just have sweet NTT Jericho back and not have to be bored to tears with another Titans traitor? But I prefer Joe Bennet's art to Barrows, so good for that (He still annoys me with things like Donna's stupid low cut top.)
Also, I love how Gar made Vic dying be all about him. Nice one, Gar.

busy
I just can't wait 'till summer. I want to sleeeeep forever and hang out....of course, I'll have a job (if I can find one) but it should still be fun.
Going through the wanktastic posts at HMS STFU has me reading the Harry Potter books again. It's been a while, and I forgot how much FUN they were, and how many different, near characters there were and how much I love 'em. Not to mention the snappy dialogue and magical shenannigans.
Brings back memories of my childhood internet fandom again. Like I mentioned before, there was a community called ThinkPotter that was a life saver for poor pathetic twelve year old me, because it was full of really mature, thoughtful people who were willing to be my friend (at the time I wasn't acquainted with the Internet enough to realized how truly rare this was.) I dunno if I could've gotten through half my teenage crises without that forum to vent to. I wasn't ALLOWED to talk about my alcoholic daddy in real life, so I vented to them. And they always treated me with kindness and acceptance.
There was Godric, who was really funny (and Irish), Aramantha, who was really, really nice. She always was the first to comfort me and stuff. Belorin was really smart, and we were all convinced he was a secret wizard (jokingly) and Irish J was the required forum smartass, but he was also nice behind all the razor sharp sarcasm. He was the main guy who put the forum back together when the main administrator, Scott, scampered, and it kind of shut down. (All the forums I join seem to eventually self destruct. Heck, I made FIVE posts on Comic Bloc, and they died and had to rebuild. Then there's Superdickery, and scans_daily...shit, Shane better hope I don't kill Calamity) And there was Banker and Kimdudley and all of them...
Of course, after the reconstruction it was never quite the same and we eventually died out, and I moved on to comics. But reading HP made me remember the fanfics we did back there, there was this guy named CornedBee who was a fellow Hermione fan and was going to do the whole series from Hermione's PoV. He did the first two and they were very good and everyone was in character...then he mysteriously dissappeared. There was a fic similar to that I stumbled upon, that did Hermione's diary in years 1-4 (the author tried to do OotP but got too depressed rereading it. I guess she was a Sirius fan). Oh, and they also did Ginny's diary in Second Year! That was good stuff.
But anyway, I'm reading the books to Dad now. He read the first one when I was...what...ten? twelve? But never got past that. Mom I've read all of them too. I'm determined to read the whole series now while I'm reliving my childhood. (Or more accurately, my tweens)
As for comics, since only Teen Titans stuff came out this week and I was busy on Wednesday, I'm prolly going to get the stuff tomorrow. I will flip through Flash Rebirth at the store, since it looks and sounds terrible and I could care less about Barry, but I want to see the scene with Bart for myself. I will also probably make a Casstoon out of it, since it sounds so very parody-able. Though I'm with Bart, I want Max back too. NOW! I SAY NOW! He's not even actually DEAD, guys, GEEZ. You just need to find Rival and shove him back in the Speed Force so Max can kick his ass and getting his body back. Much more logical than Barry coming back.
There's also this 'zine someone did that is a cultural study on Robins, including STEPH! And she's on the cover and stuff! That makes me very happy, I put it in the wiki and everything.sharpest-rose.livejournal.com/1032810.ht
I think that's all. There might be something else, but I can't remember it. My cuz is comin' for the weekend, should be fun.

But first, tell me...Grant Morrison sez...
NRAMA: What is Superman's song? What does it sound like?
GM: ‘Born In The USA’? ‘Crazy In Love’? ‘Man, I Feel Like A Woman’? ‘My Way’? ‘A Milli’? ‘Come Into The Garden, Maude’? Whatever your favourite song is, that’s what he’s singing. For me today, it’s ‘Granite’ by Pendulum.
What do YOU think Superman sang!
I posted on Superdickery:
For me it's either
"If I go crazy, will you still call me Superman..." (Kryptonite, 3 Doors down)
Or "I can't stand to fly...I'm not that naive..." (Superman, Five for Fighting)
My dad and I listen to those when I ride with him to school, because he loves them, so I now love them and they are imprinted in my brain forever.
It would be really funny is it was the second one, because it means he smote Darkseid with the sheer power of his emo.
Oh, and if you want my thoughts on Final Crisis, I didn't read it, only the scans on scans_daily. It seems really weird and convoluted and pretentious with some very awesome moments thrown in. However, I really don't know, and I won't until I read the trade at Books A Million whenever it comes out. All I do know, is I have been in comics four years, and I am already sick of how many stories seem to revolve around Superman being the GREATEST EVAH. Okay, we GET it, he was first, he was the seed and he's Jesus, MOVE ON.
But, it looks kinda cool and helluva lot more interesting than Secret Invasion sounded like.
But I may never forgive Morrison for his comment on Wonder Woman. Because I am vindictive and hate when people express their opinions!
Right, right, comics reviews...spoilers as always...
Supergirl Cosmic Adventures #3
Can I just reiterate how AWESOME this series is? BECAUSE. It IS.
I love little Lena Luthor. She is so insane...ly cute! Cute in her insanity. I like how she just casually freaks out at people, and invents these weird contraptions to save the day, and how bitter and melodramatic she is. She's like a little redheaded tornado of MAD SCIENCE! I hope she learns to escape her brother's influence and stay friends with Linda even after she inevitable finds out she's Supergirl. Because she is great as Linda's friend.
And Linda got to do some actual really nice superheroing this issue! In her own special way. She risked her life to save the school! Go Linda!
My favorite scene had to be this:
(Linda fakes being taken away in order to save a falling boy)
Linda: AIEE! I'm being carried away to my MYSTERIOUS DOOM!
Lena: I WILL AVENGE YOU! *shakes fist*
I also like the little easter eggs they drop in for geeks without taking away from the story, like Linda coming back from her time traveling with a Legion Flight Ring on, and a picture of her in the headband!
In conclusion, this book remains great. DUNDUNDUN, evil principal. Streaky's apparently next, I can't wait!

Secret Six #6
DAMN. That was a shock ending there! Floyd, how could you? HOW?
Though he obviously didn't actually kill anybody. It takes more than a head-bullet to put Scandal down, and Ragdoll gets his bones broken all the time, so being run over doesn't bother him. Catman's more iffy, but I imagine he's okay, and there's Jeannette...well, it's interesting he went for a gut shot, which can be survivable, rather than a heart or brain shot.
Seeing as how Floyd is still in the book, I imagine there's something more to this..or there isn't. You never know with Gail!
Anyway, Ragdoll is such a woobie. I want to cuddle him. His sadness over Alex is adorable.
I like Jeannette. Her origin was cool, though I'm not totally clear on her powers. Countess Bathory for the win! And I love the panel where she said "I'm a Banshee". Nicola and the colorist ROCKED that.
And the Mad Hatter is behind it all! Yay Jervis! I even liked the Origins and Omens back up, with art by Pete Woods. It was good but not as orgasmically awesome as his usual fare. What is with Pete lately? Does he have a hand injury or something?

Legion of 3 Worlds #3
I got this for the Bart. Suprisingly, I was able to understand it somewhat. I love how scared SB Prime is of Bart, and Bart's lines coming back. And XS! Yay! And good George Perez art. Though for some reason Bart's reveal looked really bad.

A good week, overall!

So, that's probably not Bart in the hoodie with the Flash symbol on the Titans covers. That would be a nice thing and we can't have nice things can we? Then, again, they said that about Steph, too....
Bah. I will not get my hopes up. Chances are it's a new Kid Flash or human Red Devil.
In other news, Miss Martian, Ravager, and Aquagirl are on the new team. It looks, dare I say...FUN. I mean, Kid Devil, MaybeKidFlash, possibly Misfit, Static, Jaime and Miss Martian? That a recipe for whatever the opposite of angst is. SHENANIGANS!
Maybe there's hope for Teen Titans yet! Who knew?
Anyway, I'm interested, which is quite amazing.
Even more important is the fact the cover to Battle for the Cowl #2....
comics.ign.com/articles/946/946039p1.htm
...has Steph on it! And Cass! And they're like, both flying through the air and sort of mirroring each other in their poses! It makes me hopeful they might actually talk or something! A foolish hope perhaps, but a hope NONETHELESS.
Another cover with Steph on it always makes me happy, because I get to add it to the wiki's cover section and that makes me feel empowered.
Strange things make me feel empowered.
Also I found inks on Tony Daniel's blog. I appreciate his decision to redraw Nightwing's head so he doesn't have that constipated yell thing going.

In other new, watched my Mask of Phantasm DVD. It's just as good the third time.
Also, I must remember to do my column for BSR today. Must...

Hermione was my first serious heroine, so my heart pretty much melts whenever I see cool stuff about her, even though my interests have strayed from HP (I still love it very much, I just don't keep up with it anymore. I haven't even gotten that Beedle and the Bard thing, which I would have been at the opening party for in my younger days)
But, that's not all...behold the prettiness!
( Steph, Wonder Woman, Harry Potter,Supergirl, Impulse and More! )
In other news, my exams are ALL over! 4 day weekend now! Mmm. Tired. Better get off.

I think it would be cool if Cass and Kara struck up a sort of friendship, despite past history. Batgirl and Supergirl as friends...I dunno, it's just neat. I'd like to see Steph come along too, naturally. She'd get along quite well with the version of Kara I prefer.

You know the deal here. Pick ten characters, either of your original creation or ten characters from one of your favorite fandoms, and list them out 1-10. Then answer the following questions. DON'T LOOK AT THE QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU PICK YOUR CHARACTERS - you'll ruin the whole game.
1. Cass Cain
2. Stephanie Brown
3. Barbara Gordon
4. Linda Danvers
5. Bart Allen
6. Jaime Reyes
7. Tim Drake
8. Diana Prince
9. Dick Grayson
10. Alfred Pennyworth
1. Four invites eight to dinner at their house. What happens?
Linda invites Diana to her house. Well, clearly, they would get along great. They would chat about having complicated origins and all that...until the inevitable "Let's fight each other and see who wins!" Wally (God) would give Linda her angel powers back for this for fun and she's suddenly go into judgement mode and they'd have a religious debate along with the fist fight and inevitably the whole block would be demolished.
2. Nine tries to get Five to go to a strip club.
Dick Grayson tries to get Bart Allen to go to a strip club.
Well, clearly something criminal is going on at this strip club. It's actually a front for a drug operation or something. Dick convinces Bart to come, because he's lonely, and then they get attacked by naked samurai women. Dick pretends not to enjoy it, and Bart is just confused. He asks Dick over and over again what prostitutes are, which is awkward. In the end, Bart ends up destroying the entire bar running after Nightwing, who is trying to escape giving "the talk". The drugs are destroyed, and Dick makes a mental note to bring Tim next time instead.
3. You need to stay at a friend’s house for a night. Who do you pick, one or six?
Oh god such a hard choice...Steph, purely because she might be more willing to do illegal things. Plus she could teach me martial arts and stuff. Jaime would be tons of fun too.
4. Two and Seven are making out. Ten walks in. What is their reaction?
Tim and Steph are making out, Alfred walks in. He would not be surprised at all, and would probably leave politely, but mock them both later.
5. Three falls in love with six. Eight is jealous. What happens?
Babs falls in love with Jaime. Diana is jealous. BUT OF WHO? She suggests a threesome inevitably. Jaime is uncomfortable with this and bows out. Babs is worried Wonder Woman will crush her between her Wonder thighs. Editorial insists Diana stay a virgin. All are heartbroken.
6. Four jumps you in a dark alleyway. Who comes to your rescue, Two, Seven or Ten?
This confuses me. Who comes to my rescue or who would I want to? Would I want them to because I would be more likely to be saved? Or because I like them? Tim would most likely be in the position come to my rescue, and I guess he's the one I'd trust the most to save me. Steph would be the one most willing to jump into the fight without a second thought. I'd like Steph to come so we could trade witty remarks. Alfred would be interesting. I'm not sure if ANY of them would fare well against Linda?
7. One decides to start a cooking show. Fifteen minutes in, what’s happened?
It would be called "Cass Cooks" and end in flames and horror.
8. Three has to marry Eight, Four or Nine. Who do they chose?
Babs has to marry Wonder Woman, Dick Grayson or Linda Danvers.
I guess Dick Grayson, since they have a history. Being married to Wonder Woman would probably irk Babs because Diana's so powerful and they are on vastly different perspectives and playing feilds, and Linda and Babs...I don't even know how those two would get along.
9. Seven kidnaps Two and demands something from Five for Two’s release. What is it?
Tim...kidnaps Steph...and demands something from...Bart.
Clearly Tim has been pumped full of Slade's Crazy Juice TM, leading to insane plans and evil monologues. He would demand Bart give him Cassie so he could have two blonde love slaves and make them fight when he feels like it. Bart is just confused because he barely knows Steph and how is he supposed to make Cassie do anything? While Tim and Bart argue, Steph, having figured her way out of being tied up, kicks Tim in the back of the head, drags him to the Batcave and gives him the antidote. All is well.
10. Everyone gangs up on Three. Does Three have a snowball’s chance in hell?
Please. It's Babs. Of course she does. SHE KNOWS ALL.
11. Everyone is invited to Two and Ten’s wedding except for Eight. How do they react?
Diana is obviously not invited to Steph and Alfred's wedding because she is the priest. She finds the pairing a bit unorthodox, but she is open to love of all types and happily presides.
12. Why is Six afraid of Seven?
Why is Jaime afraid of Tim? The way Tim is acting in Teen Titans right now, Jaime is deathly afraid his leadership will get them all killed.
13. One arrives late for Two and Ten’s wedding. What happens, and why were they late?
Cass has figured out Steph and Alfred are both Skrulls from their body language and rescued the real Steph and Alfred, kept in a giant spaceship near Gotham. As a result, the wedding turns into a giant kung fu fight, and Cass has fun.
14. Five and Nine get roaring drunk and wind up at your place. What happens?
I try to take advantage of Bart, with him being so damn cute and all, I can't resist. Nightwing stops me, and I slap him several times in revenge and then mock him about his old costume and fetish for red heads. In a drunken rage Nightwing calls Batman. I hide under the bed and yell at Bruce from the safe haven about how he treated Cass. Bruce is mad at Dick for taking up his time and takes them both home. I manage to get Barts autograph before they leave.
15. Nine murders Two’s best friend. What does Two do to get back at them?
Dick murders Steph's best friend...Cass? How did that happen? At any rate, Steph is very enthusiastic in her revenge, which involves dismemberment and gasoline. Tim is devastated when he finds out, but gets over it when Steph distracts him with hot threesome sex with her and Bart.
16. Six and One are in mortal danger, and only one of them can survive. Does Six save themselves or One?
Jaime saves Cass. He's far too good of a person not to.
17. Eight and Three go camping. For some reason, they forget to bring any food. What happens?
Diana offers to fly off and get food, but Babs, irate, yells that she's perfectly capable of getting food for herself. When Diana isn't looking, she uses her laptop to get food airmailed to them. Diana totally realizes this, but pretends not to, and commends Barbara's camping saavy.
18. Five is in a car crash and is critically injured. What does Nine do?
Bart in a car crash. Dick uses the medical resources available to help Bart, and calls every healer he knows, as well as Tim and Wally. Things are fixed in no time.

I am a sixteen year old girl who loves comics. I richochet from being overly enthusiastic to deeply cynical. I do mainly DC, I guess cuz it was cartoon based on a DC comic that got me into it. I do read Runaways and occasionally Young Avengers though.
Here's what my longbox looks like in fact:
Batgirl (EVERYthing...well, almost. I've got all the trades and two Puckett issues not included in the trades, and some Horrocks stuff, as well as Robin/Batgirl: Fresh Blood)
Birds of Prey (All Gail's stuff and some of Dixon. Still buying it. I miss Gail though)
Blue Beetle (All. Yaaaay Jaime!)
Booster Gold
Impulse (All of it. Seriously, I love(d) Bart.)
Robin (All of it, up until Steph died. Not so much stopped reading because of that, though it was a factor, but because of major drop in quality that coincidentally happened when Tim got, I don't know, HIS ENTIRE SUPPORTING CAST killed off. WILL be picking it up again when Dixon come back on in January...can't wait!)
Supergirl (The Peter David version, nearly all of it now, and the issues in the current series after Kelly left. You know, when it got readable)
The New Teen Titans (You know, 80's version? A very sizable chunk of it)
The current Teen Titans (All of it. Even the complete crap *coughTitansEastAdamBeechencough*
Teen Titans Go! (All of it. SO. MUCH. LOVE)
The Wonder Girl miniseries (Buy it, it's good!)
Wonder Woman (I read all of Rucka's run in the library, what I've got in the box are the fill ins J. Torres did and then the issues Gail's currently putting out of course)
Young Justice (Nearly all of it now, hooray!)
There's easily thousands of dollars worth of comics in my room, yeah. And I'm picking up Batman and the Outsiders now that Cassandra's showed up.
So. Let's see. Out of this I'm currently still picking uppppp...
Batman and the Outsiders
Birds of Prey
Blue Beetle
Booster Gold
Robin come January...
Supergirl
Teen Titans
Teen Titans Go!
Wonder Girl
Wonder Woman
Ooooh, forgot Gotham Underground! Yeah, now mysterious Spoiler like person has showed up, that too!
So if I ever start reviewing comics, this is what you can expect.
So, I am a major freaking fangirl of THESE CHARACTERS: Stephanie Brown (elaborated on in the last post), Cassandra Cain, Jaime Reyes, Linda Danvers (miss her...), Wonder Woman, all the animated Titans, Babs Gordon...and I guess Micheal Carter and Ted Kord.
Hee, ya mighta noticed I like the underdog.
ANYWAY.
Just two links and I'll stop.
I've done some random badly draw cartoons that Justin Carr was kind enough to include on his deviantart archive for CassCult (they get better as you go on.)
