Blogs I Like

  • Feb. 24th, 2010 at 10:08 PM
steph hey you
Yes this totally IS me procrastinating on homework, why would you think otherwise.

All my LJ buddies run great blogs, but you can just click on my f-list to see them But as an arbiter of WFA (which I DON'T FEEL LIKE WORKING  on right now, so here's me procrastinating on that too) there a few blogs that stick out to me as consistently good. Also, a few blogs and communities I haven't mentioned.

Of course, I totally hart scans_daily as we all know. It's a place I can hang out in without getting slapped in the  face with sexist fail, and I can enjoy funny scans and funny people. Girl Wonder is also great, but I haven't gone there lately cuz...wll, people hardly ever go there. And I've made my adoration for the WW boards clear in the past. Hanging with Gail Simone and other cool creators is the coolest.

But other blogs and communities I've neglected to mention?

4th!Letter:
A cool site run by smart people that always gives us a lot of fodder for WFA. Esther Ingliss-Arkell in particular does some really thoughtful posts of feminism in comics and a  hilarious Batgirl recap series. She's a fan of Babs, Steph and Cass just like...all of us? davidbrothers is currently doing some great Black Future Month posts

1979 Semiifinalist/ She Has No Head! I disagree with her about some things (okay, so it's Steph) but her articles are always entertaining and informative, and she's staunchly feminist and against exploitation of women in comics.

Atop the 4th Wall is a great show, and the theme song is permanently stuck in my head. It's got several hilarious running gags and rightly burns bad comics! I knew Linkara from the days he hung around Girl Wonder actually, and he emailed me once to ask Nicieza about NFL Superpro back when our war was raging. I did, but he never responded. I don't think I sent him an email telling Linkara this (well, I said, I'll email you if he responds...but I should have emailed back anyway, asking Lewis if I should act again. I was busy with BSR at that time, so I guess it slipped my mind. Now I feel all bad. Did I even tell him I liked his show? I'm such a cad!) Anyway, the recent review of Ultimates 3 had be in stitches. And Linkara is way talented in all the voices he does, I'm so envious. His Tony Stark voice is the best thing ever.

Comics Alliance is a newsite with lots of hilarious and entertaining features, like "Stupidist Superhero Origins" and the like, as well as awesome collections of art from around the web. It's updated constantly and run by funny people like Chris Sims, so you can find something to entertain you every visit.

Fantastic Fangirls: A cool look at comics from multiiple fangirl contributers, with roundtable questions and lots of images.

Green Lantern Butts Forever:
Sally is so positive. I wish I could be so positive. Great posts on Hal getting his head knocked around and various GL's showing off their ass-ets, but also fun filled reviews!

Living Between Wednesdays
: I've always loved this site. Rachelle is hilarious with her Superhunks and Silver Age analysis, unfortunately, she doesn't post that much anymore. Damn her for getting married and having a baby and a real life and stuff! Dave and Johnothan are pretty good though, and there's lots of goofy looks at old comics. I love Archie Sundays!

Pai: Pai is a Buffy fan, Supergirl fan, GL fan and Batfan. She's ma freind and she's awesome. Lots of great posts of feminist stuff or just plain geek stuff, and she has a site that deals with what comics are accessible to knew readers AND mostly offensive-stuff free!

 Retconning My Brain:
She's a fan of most of the stuff I hart and she talks about it well. Discusses feminism and racism and cool comics!

What Were They Thinking?
A funny look at the Truly WTF shit in old comics.

Now, on the Harry Potter/other fandoms side of things:

HMS STFU: A site covering HP Wank and badfic, and GODdamn is there a lot of it. I never realized there were so many crazy people in HP Fandom, and that Ron and Ginny demonizing, Snape Woobifying, Hermione-Suing and just general CRAZINESS and MISOGNY ran so deep in HP fandom. But it's fun to point and laugh. The badfic is the best part, there's a great sporking of the excretion that is Rose Potter in the archives, and I'm currently having fun sporking DAYD on there.

Harry Potter Musical
: Seriously. Watch it. It's hilarious and the music and acting is great.

das_sporking and das_mervin: Truly vicious recaps/sporkings of Twilight and the HP badfic Ariana Black. I quickly became addicted. Sporkings addict me.

Cleolinda: Hilarious recaps of Twilight (especially Breaking Dawn) and the even more hilarious Movies in Fifteen Minutes which covers a vast array of movies from HP to Twilight to Disaster movies to 300.

That's all the blogs I can remember for now, though there's plenty more great ones out there! *sigh* suppose I should get to that homework now.

Oh Harry Potter musical... It's made of pure win. I know I had Get back to Hogwarts stuck in my head for weeks, and kept muttering 'pigfarts' under my breathe and giggling like a crazy person.

I'm sooo glad they got the soundtrack up for download.

Hey! Thanks for the nice words, despite our disagreement on Steph Brown. :) I'm glad you've come back and kept reading.
